2nd Place
Tenerife
At the last weekend I had the chance to take part in the last stop of the
2011 wave tour of the Canary Islands at Las Américas, Tenerife.
As it was a standby event we were waiting already a few weeks for a good surf and at the 28th of January it was the last chance. It was my first event in SUP and I did not have any idea about the level of the other riders.
On Saturday the waves were great, but due to many participants at the surf category the SUP heats were postponed to Sunday. So I went out to prepare myself and to get used to the place.
Sunday started calm with no wind at all but also the waves were much smaller. At least it was still enough to start the competition.
The SUP competition began at noon, each heat lasted 15 minutes. It was quite a challenge to pick out the best waves because they were breaking over a shallow reef. Almost all the riders got in touch with the reef, but luckily nothing serious happened.
After a few tight heats the competition was done and I was absolutely happy with my result: 2nd place!

2nd place: Moritz Mauch
3rd place: Felix Palmero
After this great experience I decided to participate in the Spanish SUP tour and probably in a few international events.
